16 APRIL 2019

On 16 April 2019 at the Shanghai motor show, three new products will be presented to journalists and the public on the "Iconiq - W Motors" stand.
The second generation of the two Iconiq Seven showcars in VIP and Premium versions, and the Iconiq Muse already shown in Dubai on 13 February 2019 at a "strictly private" event.
The two,"almost" definitive, Seven models represent the evolution of the two versions with respect to the showcars presented two years earlier at the same Chinese show. Their final production and electrical configuration is expected towards the end of 2021.

In 2019, the presentation of the Iconiq Muse concept, conceived with electric traction andlevel 5 autonomous driving, is a special occasion for the Stola family as they celebrate a century of automotive work.

After the test, Studiotorino was entrusted with the task of giving the prototype a mechanics with the aim of having the prototype in maximum efficiency with a particular focus on the circulation of the coolant between the engine, the pipes and the radiator available in the Principality on 26 June.
The upcoming event would include a 40km mountain rally, so it would be necessary to take into account the conditions associated with both steep climbs as well as intense city traffic and how these very different situations would affect engine temperatures.
Well aware of the responsibility towards one of the most iconic Concept Cars in the history of the automobile, born from the genius of Marcello Gandini, this mechanical restoration would need to be approached with absolute technical and historical rigor. So, it was decided to entrust the work on the Stratos to the experts of the “Ferrari Forza Service” workshop in Turin whose dogma of the Authentic is clear.

5 JULY 2019

With STUDIOTOINO  thesis projects with graduating students from Iaad university have become a reoccurring event, and the 100 year anniversary make this moment even more important.
The titles proposed for the two students this year are particularly ambitious: "A contemporary concept of the Ferrari Dino" and " an italian one-off based on a classic american muscle car".

01

"Dino contemporary hypothesis" was the title proposed by STUDIOTORINO for the degree thesis presented by Cristiano Umana on 5th July at the Iaad University of Turin.
The intention was more than to create a new hypothetical style, it was also to study how extraordinary projects can be born from a heartbreaking love story of a father for a son, destined to die very young from a degenerative disease.

01Turin March 26, 2019, the first study of Cristiano Umana to get to the contemporary Dino.

02Maranello 1954, Enzo and Alfredo (Dino) Ferrari together from the window of via Abetone lower 4.The most striking thing about this thesis is that Enzo Ferrari chose the V6 engine for the most important technological change on his cars, that was the move from a front engined to a mid’ engined layout.
The engine developed by the very young Alfredo Ferrari was perhaps, not surprisingly, branded with his nickname "Dino" after his death.
This major innovation of repositioning the engine-gearbox group took place for Ferrari first in 1961 for Formula 1called Dino 156 F1, still in 1961 in the Sport Prototype category the 246 SP, and in 1967 with the Dino 206 GT followed then by 246 GT and GTS for the first Gran Turismo of "Grande serie" whose total production reached 4,067 unità.
These extraordinary Dino GT and GTS were preceded in 1965 by the Pininfarina prototype called Ferrari Dino 206 P Berlinetta Speciale designed by Aldo Brovarone.

05 21966 Dino Berlinetta GT05 31967 Dino Berlinetta Competizione

05 41963 Ferrari 250 LMWhen and how Enzo Ferrari decided to want the engine in the central position, the Tipo 250 LM of 1963 should be told as an "exception".
As already written, in 1961 Ferrari presented its first Formula 1 and its first Sport Prototype with a central engine, and in 1967 its first homologated large-production road car; of all these cars the engine was the six-cylinder DINO.
This 1963 250 LM, also with a central engine but with 12 cylinders, the idea was to imagine the renewal of the famous 250 GTO (Gran Turismo Omologata) which had a front 12 cylinder engine for competitions, and it is no coincidence that LM  were the initials of Le Mans.
The F.I.A. due to insufficient units produced (33 in total out of 100 requests) it did not issue the homologation to compete in the Gran Turismo Omologate category, and for this reason it was forced to race in the Sport Prototype category. Later in 1966 very few specimens were then approved for road circulation in a private way.
For this reason the 250 LM should be considered a Sport Prototype and not a production car.

Attempting to style a Maranello car is presumptuous, but since it is a thesis by a young student, it should also be considered a courageous and worthy task.
Before starting work, it was decided to first make a visit to the Geneva Motor Show, then to Modena and Maranello in order to let him soak up the magical atmosphere of the places where the legend was born.
A walk outside the factory, a visit to the two museums, and tasting the food of the local historic restaurants were the preparatory stages.

06Turin 10 March 2019, a preparatory drawing by Cristiano Umana to learn about the sinuous curves of the classic Dino.

Alfredo and Maria Paola Stola, as external consultants, invited their friend Wladimir Lasbugues to contribute as a tutor, gaining the opinion of a professional designer with the aim of making Cristiano Umana grasp every little historical, aesthetic and technical detail that could be useful for the thesis.
2500 cc, 4-cylinder turbo with an electric power unit, the characteristics that give name to this hybrid "Dino 254 GT-H".
The overall dimensions of this Dino are: length 4300mm, width 1850mm, height 1200mm, wheelbase 2550mm, which makes it around 19% smaller (apart from the similar height) than the Ferrari 488.
In this thesis a spider version was also imagined with a classic targa-type roof, the "Dino 254 GTS-H".

Laura Milani, Pietro Nume and Alessandro Camorali.

A few days after the presentation of the thesis, we met in Villarbasse to set up a "Post Thesis" study.
In this way, Tutor Wladimir Lasbugues was able to transmit to Umana all the improvements in terms of line refinement and coloring.
Cristiano Umana, without the pressure of the exams, was able to complete the drawing and thus simulate, in a certain sense, a real work environment with a manager to whom to report the result.

22Villarbasse 24 July 2019. About three weeks after the presentation of the thesis, Maria Paola hosts the designer Wladimir Lasbugues who as Tutor examines and corrects the designs of Cristiano Umana. The goal is to face a "Post Thesis" period together to obtain the most professional result possible.
